What’s the hype with the Banana Pudding?
It’s delicious—duh! Magnolia Bakery's Banana Pudding deserves its hype and popularity for several reasons! It’s rich and creamy. It’s classic and nostalgic. It’s made with high-quality ingredients. And probably the most important…it was featured on the television show "Sex and the City."
What’s in the Magnolia Bakery Banana Pudding?
The specific recipe for Magnolia Bakery's Banana Pudding is under wraps, but the key ingredients are:
Vanilla Pudding: It’s a smooth and creamy vanilla pudding base
Bananas: Ripe bananas are sliced and layered throughout the vanilla pudding
Nilla Wafers: These cookies are a signature element of the pudding! The texture of the wafers as they soak up the pudding is absolutely perfect!

What’s in this dairy-free Magnolia Bakery Banana Pudding?
Dairy-free Simply Delish Instant Vanilla Pudding Mix: This dairy-free pudding mix is the best I’ve tried so far. It’s sweet and creamy with the person vanilla essence.
Dairy-free sweetened condensed milk: I used Nature's Charm coconut condensed milk, but they also have an oat milk version
Dairy-free milk: I prefer soy milk in the recipe as it has a neutral flavor. However, you can use any dairy-free milk.
Dairy-free “heavy cream”: Hot Take I think heavy whip is the coolest product to hit the shelves in years! It makes making dairy-free whipped cream a breeze. There are multiple brands on the market; a few of my favorites are Califia Heavy Whip, Silk Whipping Cream, and Country Crock Plant Cream.
Bananas: You want ones that are yellow—ripe but not too ripe
Gluten-free vanilla wafers: I guess I’ve been living under a rock because I just tried Kennick Gluten-Free Vanilla Wafers. They are dairy-free and so delicious! However, any gluten-free vanilla wafer will work in this recipe.
